Feelings of goodwill towards all men seem to have been in short supply this week (can’t think why) but rest assured that there’s plenty of socially conscious festive fun to be had this weekend to restore them, from a bracing fundraiser for Crisis, to an eco-friendly festive market and a Christmas shindig collecting donations for the homeless.
1. Crisis Icebreaker
Swim solo, in a relay team or even in fancy dress at this teeth-chattering fundraiser at Brockwell Lido, where your registration fee will reserve a place for a homeless person at one of Crisis's Christmas centres this winter.
Brockwell Lido. Herne Hill rail. Sat Dec 14. £28.87.
2. Mudchute Christmas
Watch a living nativity with IRL animals, try your hand at festive crafts and browse stalls for stocking fillers at this festive farmyard shindig. You’re also encouraged to bring along donations of blankets, bedding and clothing for local homeless projects.
Mudchute Park and Farm. Mudchute DLR. Sat Dec 14. Free.
3. Lucia by Norrsång Choir
Join east London’s Norrsång Choir as it celebrates St Lucia’s Day in customary Swedish style, with a candle procession and traditional songs in commemoration of the martyred saint.
St Mary's Walthamstow. Tube: Walthamstow Central. Sat Dec 14. £9.
4. Conscious Christmas Market
Pick up ethically made and sourced gifts from independent traders and makers at this eco-friendly market selling crafts, books, beauty products and vintage clothing, before enjoying live music and entertainment provided by Netil Radio.
Netil Market. London Fields Overground. Sat Dec 14. Free.
5. ‘Love Actually’ Drink-Along Movie Night
A raucous drink-along viewing of Richard Curtis’s Christmas classic featuring live hosts, snow machines, confetti, festive food and even the occasional balloon drop!
The Clapham Grand. Clapham Junction rail. Sat 14 Dec. £16.50.
