Mrs Tiggywinkle might not have been known for her on-point band recommendations but in November Hackney’s Sebright Arms will be hosting Hedgefest – very possibly the first ever event to combine the twin joys of music and hedgehogs in one big celebration.

Featuring bands including buzzy newcomers Blueprint Blue, storytelling, poetry reading and 'an 87-year old Bethnal Green native who plays a flaming flute' (yes, we’re intrigued too), the day will focus on telling hedgehoggy tales and shining a light on the nocturnal animals. Not literally, obvs.

There’s a bigger point to the all-day soiree than just cooing over our spiny little friends, however. Highlighting the rapidly decreasing urban hedgehog population (over the past 10 years, London’s has declined by over 50%), Hedgefest aims to raise awareness of the situation and educate people on how they can help.

Oh, and there’ll be hedgehog-themed cocktails too. Which could mean anything.

Hedgefest takes place at Hackney’s Sebright Arms on November 17. Follow them on Instagram @hedgefest.
