When it comes to ranking the best cities in the world, it’s not always obvious which list you should pay attention to (there are quite a few of them). Just last month London was named the world’s best city by Resonance Consultancy. But now a new list of the 100 best cities on the planet has been revealed, and the UK capital didn’t even make the top 10. Naturally, we’re more inclined to pay attention to the Resonance list, but I guess we will have to humour the Top 100 City Destinations Index too.
Every year, data analytics company Euromonitor ranks 100 cities from around the world to create the Top 100 City Destinations Index. Each city gets an overall attractiveness score, taking into account economic and business performance, tourism performance, tourism infrastructure, tourism policy and attractiveness, health and safety, and sustainability.
In 2024, for the fourth year in a row, Paris was named the top city on the planet. Hosting the Olympics this year helped the City of Light take the crown again, as more than 70 million visitors travelled to the French capital.
London, which came 10th in Euromonitor’s ranking last year, only made it to number 13 in 2024, sitting between Seoul at 12 and Dubai at 14. While London ranked just after Paris for the best tourism infrastructure, it failed to break the top 10 for tourism policy, health and safety or sustainability.
