Can you hear that? That’s the sound of a can of warm lager being cracked open in the park, because summer is officially on the horizon. We can already smell the sun cream.

And with the return of the warmer months comes one of the best things about London: outdoor drinking. We’re talking beer gardens, cocktail terraces and rooftop bars

London will have a brand new drinks terrace this summer, as the Southbank Centre has just revealed its new Seventy5th Balcony Bar on the fifth floor of the Grade I-listed Royal Festival Hall, with cracking views of the Thames and London’s skyline.

Previously the bar, built in 1964, was only open for interval drinks and drinks receptions during large scale events. Now its had a swanky renovation which pays homage to the original ‘60s interiors by Peter Moro, and is open to the public on Tuesday to Sunday from 10am to 11pm. Signature drinks include a hibiscus margarita and a non-alcoholic basil lemonade, alongside an extensive wine list including English sparkling wines.

The bar is serving food, helmed by Company of Cooks, and drinks around the clock, with brunch taking from 10am to midday. After this you can munch on European-inspired small plates, sharing platters, anti-pasti and cheese boards. They’ve got a kids’ menu too.

Its name is commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Southbank, which will take place in 2026.

See you there for a spritz.
