Eating your bodyweight in samosas and helping those in need? You needn’t ask us twice. Ravinder Bhogal will be hosting The Samosa Sisterhood on November 28 at her Marylebone restaurant Jikoni. This special collaborative charity event helps women and children who are victims of domestic violence with no recourse to public funds. Bhogal has joined forces with Professor Aisha. Gill from the University of Roehampton who has worked closely with the victims of gender-based violence during the pandemic, offering emergency support. All proceeds from the event will go towards her chosen charities Asha ProjectsSafety4Sisters and Women for Refugee Women.

Curated by Bhogal, the event is going to be a jam-packed affair filled with food, poetry readings, talks and live music. Expect a star-studded line-up of guests from all industries, including comedian Meera Syal, musician Anoushka Shankar, pastry chef and ‘Junior Bake Off’ judge Ravneet Gill, actress Indira Varma, poet and writer Nikita Gill and news anchor Mishal Husain. Plus, live DJ sets throughout the day and night with DJ Yung Singh, Mera Bhai, Riva, amad, Moorni and the Daytimers crew on the decks to bring banging beats.

As for the food? There will be samosas, lots and lots of them. Plus a banquet of dishes such as chaats, bhel puri, steamed dhokla (gram flour cake) and an Indo-Chinese favourite chilli paneer. And also Punjabi thali with channa bhatura (chickpeas cooked with dried pomegranate and spices) and bhatura breads. Gill will be on hand to ensure things end on a sweet note by serving her ras malai cake.

‘Until all women are safe, none of us are safe,’ said Bhogal. ‘I am continually inspired by Aisha’s commitment to her work and the funds we are raising are critical for charities in a time where government funding has been cut. All of us at Jikoni are grateful for the opportunity to be able to give our service for this cause and I am deeply grateful to all those involved from the phenomenally inspiring women reading.’

Guests can choose from either a lunch sitting at 1pm to 4pm or dinner sitting 6pm to 9pm. Tickets are £75 and available to buy here.

19-21 Blandford St, W1U 3DH.
