Everyone knows that when you’re buying a house, you’re not just paying for a certain number of bedrooms or the size garden or the way it looks, you’re paying for the postcode. London is full of beautiful, quiet and highly desirable streets for homeowners. And you best believe you’ll need to drop a lot of dosh if you want any chance of living on them. More than anywhere else in the UK, in fact.
With help from data analysts at Rightmove, the Sunday Times has revealed the most exclusive streets across the country right now. To be considered for the list, the Times says that a street must have at least five properties on the market right now. That way, it can exclude streets that are inactive in the property market or don’t have many residential properties.
So, it revealed that the priciest street in the London (and the whole of the UK) is Winnington Road in Hampstead, where houses cost an average £11.9m.
The Times said: ‘This is a north London suburban street for the very wealthy: it is a few yards away from the Bishops Avenue but — unlike so-called “billionaires’ row” — it doesn’t contain flats, care homes and building sites. Instead it comprises very expensive properties owned by families who mostly live there permanently.’
At the moment the properties up for grabs on Winnington Road include a £24.95m four-storey, 17,000 square foot home with a swimming pool, steam room, gym and a six-car garage, or for a lesser £15.5m, there’s an eight-bed mansions with a cinema room and swimming pool.
According to the Times’ research, the UK’s eight most expensive streets are all here in London. Lowndes Square in Belgravia was second on the list with an average house price of £10.5m and Eaton Terrace in Knightsbridge was third at an average of £9.8m. Only two out of the 20 priciest streets in the country were outside of the capital.
