London is known for its amazing variety, abundance of things to do and beautiful neighbourhoods. However, like any large city, it’s also got humdrum suburbs without much more than a local green and a bus stop. The dull yin to London’s exciting yang, if you will.
Over on Reddit, Londoner’s have been voting for the most unremarkable parts of the city. What is the most run-of-the-mill postcode, that isn’t terrible, but also hasn’t got much going on either? The Redditor’s called it the most ‘bang average’ part of the city.
According to the people of the internet, Anerley, a suburb in south east London has been dubbed the capital’s most boring place with ‘no personality’.
‘Anerley, where I live, might be in the running,’ one commenter wrote. ‘It's totally fine and pleasant, but I mostly like living there because of the easy access to more interesting places like Beckenham, Penge and (especially) the Crystal Palace triangle.’
‘Anerley is for people who can’t afford Crystal Palace but don’t have the personality for somewhere more edgy,’ another comment read. Ouch.
However not everyone agreed. One person wrote: ‘Anerley isn't that bad. It has the park, the Sunday market, the dinosaurs, the Chatsworth Bake House.’ Plus, in 2024 Bromley, which is home to Anerley, was named London’s best borough for families thanks to its quality schools, low crime rates and abundance of parks.
The second most boring place voted for by Reddit users was North Acton, which was described as ‘quite unremarkable’. ‘The whole stretch from East Acton to North Acton has nothing interesting,’ the user wrote. Another person added that the west London suburb was ‘remarkably depressing’.
Sutton, Sidcup, Romford, Redbridge and Havering also all got shout-outs for being London’s least remarkable areas. Do you agree with the people of Reddit?
