Who doesn’t enjoy bowling? Kids do it at birthday parties, it’s fun for adults too, and it features heavily in the film The Big Lebowski. What’s not to like?

London has a number of fantastic bowling alleys: the raucous Rowans, the hipster Bloomsbury Lanes, and the Americana-inspired Hollywood Bowl. But one spot has just been crowned the best above all. In fact, this London bowling alley has been named the best in the world.

Vintners Lanes in Greenwich has been named the world’s best bowling alley at the 40th Annual Bowling Centre Architecture and Design Awards. This bougie spot was recognised for its ‘stunning interior’ which features leather banquette seating, wood-panelled walls and moody lighting.

The awards, held in Texas, USA, celebrate bowling centres worldwide for their design and style. Vintners was the only British spot to take home a prize.

Opening in November 2024, Vintners is one of London’s newest bowling alleys. It resides in a building built in the 1850s that was once home to Davy’s, one of London’s oldest wine merchants. Inside the industrial-chic decor combines Victoriana with vintage bowling memorabilia and original period artwork.

Branding and interior design specialists DesignLSM took inspiration from the original brickwork, concrete features, and historical detailing when designing the space.

Vintners chief financial officer Mark Carrick said: ‘We’re incredibly proud to be recognised on an international stage amongst such stiff competition. It’s an amazing accolade and we're excited for visitors to come and see for themselves what all the fuss is about.’
