Thomas Heatherwick, he who designed the Olympic cauldron, those really hot buses and the controversial (but as yet non-existent) Garden Bridge, has revealed more big plans for London – a new canal-side shopping centre in King’s Cross. The new development is called Coal Drops Yard and the plan is to re-purpose the old coal drop buildings to create a mega new shopping centre with space for 65 shops and restaurants, which will open onto a public plaza.

The plans have just got the green light from Camden Council, which means that building work will start early next year and hopefully be finished by 2018.

Have you heard that an outdoors sauna just opened in King's Cross?
