Now Londoners have had a taste of phone signal on the tube, we can’t get enough of it. While some may have once somewhat enjoyed the London Underground’s blissful data blackout, that’s all now a thing of the past: TfL has been slowly but surely rolling out 4G and 5G throughout London’s subterranean train routes.
And the internet-isation of London’s train network just hit a big new milestone. TfL has just announced that the entire Elizabeth line now has 4G coverage. Back in May all Lizzie line stations had 4G, but now the tunnels do, too.
TfL is rolling out 4G on the tube with Boldyn Networks. The process began on the Northern and Central lines, and now several stations on the Jubilee, Piccadilly and Bakerloo lines have internet, too.
Where’s next to get sparkly new data coverage? TfL says work is underway to expand coverage on the Northern line towards Morden, as well as between King’s Cross St Pancras and Moorgate. This’ll be done by early 2025.
The Bakerloo, meanwhile, is getting coverage in the tunnelled sections between Piccadilly Circus and Embankment. More Bakerloo coverage, plus expansion on the Piccadilly and Victoria lines, is in the pipeline.
Here are all the stations that currently have 4G coverage, according to TfL.
- Central line – Shepherds Bush, Holland Park, Notting Hill Gate (Central line only), Queensway, Lancaster Gate, Marble Arch, Bond Street (Central and Elizabeth line only) Oxford Circus (Central line only), Tottenham Court Road, Holborn, Chancery Lane, St Pauls, Bank (Central line only)
