Concrete brutalist architecture combined with an enormous assortment of tropical plants makes the Barbican Conservatory one of a kind.
The huge indoor jungle is normally open to the public on weekends but took a brief break over Christmas and closed from December 17. The wait for it to reopen is finally over though — the Barbican Conservatory is open once again to the public this weekend.
If you’re not so familiar with the conservatory, let us fill you in. It’s one of the largest greenhouses in London, second only to the one at Kew Gardens. Inside, you’ll find more than 1,500 plant species sprawling across its walls, koi carp and terrapin floating in its ponds and, now and again, stunning art exhibitions.
From Saturday January 25, the greenhouse will be open to explore every Friday from 6.30pm to 9.30pm and Saturdays and Sundays at 12pm to 7pm.
Tickets are free but you’ll have to reserve a time slot. They’re released a month in advance and you can join a waiting list so that you’re among the first to be notified when slots become available.
If you’d rather be a bit more spontaneous about it, a limited number of tickets are released at 9.30am on days that the conservatory is open.
