When riding the tube, it can be easy to end up with accidental extra charges if you forget to tap in or out. Getting back that money used to be quite fiddly, having to register your card on the TfL website and log in to see if you’d accrued extra charges. But now its easier than ever to get that money back, and top up your Oyster, because of a new update to the TfL Go app. Yep, bet you didn’t know TfL had its own app. Citymapper, who?

TfL has released the latest update of the TfL Go app which now has the option to check your previous travel charges, and apply for refunds. It’s really simple to use: just download the app, log in (or create your TfL account), then register your Oyster card or contactless card that you use for travel. After doing that you’ll be able to see your journey history, how much you were charged for each trip, and apply for a refund straight away if you were mischarged.

The free app also provides real-time travel information for tube, bus and rail services, including quieter times to travel, and a feature for viewing step-free journeys.

Amir Dawoodbhai, who is on the Executive Committee of TfL's Youth Panel, said: ‘In a generation, Londoners have undergone a quantum shift in how they plan and pay for travel in the capital. Today, the role of TfL as a guiding hand through our expansive and complex networks is more vital than ever, and that role demands an equitable digital offering.

‘The updated TfL Go app, now with payment integration, will undoubtedly be a valuable touchstone as digitisation in transport continues to trend upward nationwide.’
