Put your money away! Here are the week’s best free events

Anthony McCall

You’re taught never to touch the art, but in this little one-room installation by British artist Anthony McCall, you couldn’t even if you tried. His light sculpture, ‘Meeting You Halfway II’, looks solid: in a pitch black room filled with smoke, the lines he creates in the space look like grey marble walls. But reach out and your hand drops right through. Duh, it’s light. But that’s all part of his trick: as you stand in the middle of lines, you feel trapped in solid matter. Trippy. Sprüth Magers. Tube: Green Park. Until Mar 31.

Alternative Careers Fair

Hate your job? Tate Modern is hosting an alternative careers fair on International Women’s Day. Curated by Black Girl Fest co-founder Nicole Crentsil, there will be talks by loads of cool women from the creative industries. Tate Modern. Tube: Blackfriars. Thu Mar 8, 11am-4pm. There will be some tickets on the door or you can reserve a ticket online.

EVE: Female Pro Wrestling

It’s time for spandex – punk feminist pro wrestling group EVE is taking over the RFH’s Riverside Terrace for three action-packed shows, as part of the Southbank’s WOW festival. It’ll be like watching Netflix’s ‘Glow’ IRL. Royal Festival Hall. Tube: Waterloo. Sun Mar 11.

Ben & Jerry’s Birthday Ball Pit

It’s been 40 years since pals Ben and Jerry started selling their delicious creations. To celebrate, they’re inviting you to regress and play in a ball pit and eat free ice cream. Just don’t overdo it on sugar and barf in the ball pit. Old Spitalfields Market. Tube: Liverpool St. Sat Mar 10.

Pussy Riot arts and crafts

Get creative and make your own Pussy Riot-inspired balaclava at this crafty, feminist workshop, which is part of the two-day Women in Focus Festival. Bonus: it’ll come in handy when London gets hit by more snow. Poplar Union. Limehouse DLR. Sat Mar 10, 3pm-4.30pm.

Food market tour

Go on an edible tour of Borough and Maltby Street markets with Instagrammer Food Feels and Residence Inn. Scoff samples from the Cheese Truck and Bad Brownie before stopping for a tipple at Little Bird Gin. Reserve a spot on Eventbrite. Residence Inn London Bridge. Tube: Borough. Sat Mar 10.
