For some picnickers, a couple of M&S sausage rolls and a gin in a tin is all you need for a truly exceptional time. For others, it’s a Franco Manca pizza and a Grapefruit San Pelly. These people are picnic beginners.
If you want a properly premium outdoor lunch, look no further than Instagrammer-fave Petersham Nurseries’ extravagant takeaway food boxes. The extremely bougie café is serving up simple but fancy Italian spreads, perfect for eating on a date.
The boxes contain the likes of pea houmous, fresh focaccia, pesto salad with tomatoes and salted ricotta, organic eggs garnished with celery salt, and an incredibly ‘MasterChef’-sounding dessert: English strawberries with mint sugar and Amalfi lemon with a shortbread biscuit.
It comes in a box for two, served with a bottle of water and your choice of chilled prosecco, wines, kombucha or craft beer, ready for you to eat in nearby Petersham meadow or Richmond Park. The boxes cost £40 and need to be ordered at least a day in advance from the Petersham Nurseries website.
Pick one up, head to the park and spend an afternoon looking down on everyone else with their ‘posh crisps’ and ‘cans’. You’re fancy now.
Not posh enough? Why not pick up some bits from Fortnum & Mason’s reopened food hall.
Or just get a takeaway pint.
