One of the world’s best places to visit in 2025 is in London… and it’s not what you’d expect

When you think of globally-famous touristy London activities, you probably go straight to ‘riding the London Eye’ or ‘getting lost Camden Market’. If you’re a Londoner and your friends are visiting for the first time you might direct them to your favourite local bakery, or one of the capital’s many wonderful alternative attractions. You probably wouldn’t recommend that they spend any more time on the city’s transport network than is absolutely necessary.

You wouldn’t, but Bloomberg apparently would, as the publication has listed ‘The Elizabeth Line’ as one of the best places to visit in the entire world in 2025. That’s right. Not just London. Not even somewhere on the line – the Lizzie line itself.

Sure, the purple line has given Londoners quiet, speedy ways of getting all the way to the likes of Reading and Heathrow airport, but can an underground transport link (nope, it’s not a tube line) really be considered one the best things to do in the best city in the world?

Well, Bloomberg thinks so. The publication’s argument is essentially that the route is so convenient you can access most of central London’s newest attractions on it. The article says: ‘Many of London’s most exciting hotel and restaurant openings will have one thing in common: proximity to the Elizabeth line, which went into service in 2022.

‘Hop off the Underground at Bond Street in Mayfair, and you’ll soon find the city’s newest ultraluxury contender, the Chancery Rosewood. The hotel will fill the former US Embassy with 146 spacious rooms and two big-deal restaurants: the first UK location of New York’s celebrity-packed Carbone and the resurrection of storied London hot spot Le Caprice.

‘A few stops away at Liverpool Street, Gordon Ramsay will spread five venues throughout London’s tallest new office building at 22 Bishopsgate. That includes Lucky Cat on the 60th floor, which, when it opens in February, will be the highest dining room in the city.’

The purple line has not been without its issues. Since its grand opening (more than a decade after construction began) in 2022, the Elizabeth line has faced delays and technical issues, and at one point was even the most delayed train line in the country. In its defence, it’s bounced back since its initial low-points to becoming the busiest train line in the UK and London’s favourite, and has even won RIBA’s mega-prestigious Stirling prize for architecture in 2024 – and you have to admit, the Lizzie is pretty stunning.
