You know what they say; you wait ages for one Northern line station to reopen, then two come along at once. Fresh from the news that Kentish Town tube station will be reopening just in time for Christmas, TfL has just announced that another north London black line stop will reopen this week: Colindale

Colindale’s Northern line stop has been shut since June so that TfL can get started on major upgrades to the station. The Edgware branch station is scheduled to reopen this Friday, December 20.

Unlike with Kentish Town, which was closed for more than six months longer than first anticipated, Colindale is expected to reopen on time. TfL said that the station would open in six months after closing, and so it has.

If you’re expecting Colindale to reopen looking new and swish, you’ll need to reel in your expectations. TfL has emphasised that the station is in a ‘temporary state’ following the completion of ‘heavy construction work’, and that work will continue on the station. Customers will, for the time being, be routed through one-way passageways.

Colindale will eventually boast a new station building with a larger ticket hall, plus a lift and step-free access. The revamp is set to be complete by autumn 2025 – here’s what the new station will look like.

Travel over Christmas in London

Colindale and Kentish Town stations might be reopening in time for Christmas, but the festive period will see severe travel disruption in London. Here’s a guide to travel in the city over Christmas and the New Year, here are all the bus, train and tube closures. For non-TfL services, beware the closure of Liverpool StreetPaddington and King’s Cross stations, and disruption on Thameslink services.
