Voting is now open for this year’s Time Out Love London Awards, and we’re asking you to nominate your most loved local venues. But in a city with so much goodness, we know that’s a tricky ask – so we’ve sought inspiration from the Time Out Tastemakers, our super-community of locals with their fingers on the pulse of London. First up, Ed Tan – aka @onehungryasian – picks nine amazing places in his Holloway Road neighbourhood.
‘My most loved local restaurant is Xi’an Impression. It serves some of the best hand-pulled noodles in London and there’s no holding back on chilli or flavour here. I’ve been a fan since the day it opened and I’ve even had it delivered… despite living a few minutes away.’
‘My most loved local coffee place is Le Peche Mignon, a cute little French café just off the main road which does great coffee, pastries and French produce. The little garden is a perfect summer spot too.’
‘My most loved local late-night spot is Big Red. It’s an American-themed dive bar popular with the rock/metal crowd. Look out for the inappropriate wall art.’
‘My most loved local pub is The Horatia. From quiet drinks to big birthdays, it has served me well over the years – and Stokey Bears have just moved in, so it’s become my go-to pub for pretty much anything.’
‘My most loved local brunch spot is Sunday at Barnsbury, which does incredible French toast. The queue here is often snaking round even before it’s open, so get there early or you can bank on a long wait.’
‘My most loved local music venue – because karaoke counts as music in my book – is Lucky Voice, where you’ll find me shamelessly belting out Backstreet Boys.’
‘My most loved local cinema is the Odeon on Holloway Road, which was a former theatre and has a great foyer. It would make a fantastic venue and community centre if they showed it a little love and restored it!’
‘My most loved local park is Highbury Fields. It can get a bit crowded in the summer, but I’ve never struggled to find a little spot to relax and enjoy the sun.’
‘My most loved local shop is Provisions, which sells cheese and great-value wine on tap in reusable bottles. It’s my favourite for window shopping and their recommendations have never steered me wrong.’
