Feeling the envy as Mardi Gras gets underway in New Orleans? Then this news is for you. NOLA Bar – the late-night cocktail spot once located above Shoreditch’s Bedroom Bar – is making a London comeback. Set to launch on Thursday March 1, the New Orleans-themed bar is relocating to Roman Road and promises to bring the southern sass and sazeracs it was previously famed for. Think less speakeasy and more Big Easy.
The team have spent over six months turning an old Georgian townhouse into a bar like something straight from the French Quarter, with languid ceiling fans, vintage decorations and bluesy tunes all promised. The menu will be full of Louisiana booze, including an extended list of Hurricane cocktails. For those less acquainted with the Hurricane, it typically includes two types of rum, passionfruit juice, orange juice, lime juice and grenadine, and is served in a tall glass with a fruity garnish.
They’ll be serving classics alongside twists – like the Espresso Hurricane – as well as zero-ABV drinks on a ‘Sans alcohol, y’all’ section of the menu. There’s also talk of Cajun and Creole dishes on the menu to soak up all that rum. So if you like the sound of London’s permanent Mardi Gras, get along to Roman Road – east London’s answer to Bourbon Street.
NOLA Bar is set to open at 107 Roman Road, E2 0QN on Thursday March 1.
