If you ride a bike in London, you might want to watch out for some of these perilous junctions. For the second year in a row, the London Cycling Campaign (LCC) has ranked London’s most dangerous junctions for cyclists, and it turns out that not much has changed since last year.
LCC looked at the past six years of collision data to find the worst locations for riders in the capital. So far in 2024 there have been six fatal collisions for cyclists in London, with the most serious and fatal collisions taking place at junctions.
The ‘Upper Tooting Road cluster’ (where Ansell Road, Derinton Road, Price Close, Lessingham Avenue, Upper Tooting Road and Cycle Superhighway CS7 all intersect) has been named as the junction where cyclists are most likely to get knocked off their bikes. LCC blamed Wandsworth Council for failing to get rid of ‘rat runs’, where drivers speed through side roads as a shortcut, for the 11 serious injuries and 20 slight casualties which have taken place there in the past six years.
The second spot to look out for is the ‘Shoreditch Triangle’, where Great Eastern Street joins Curtain Road – there have been nine serious injuries there over six years.
In third place was the Clapham High Street/Lendal Terrace, which has seen six serious injuries and 23 slight injuries over the recorded period.
