Despite all its problems, Londoners are proud of the Underground. It was the world’s first underground railway, and residents of the UK capital have been rattling around in subterranean tubes since 1863. Now, London’s favourite line has been revealed, as YouGov surveyed 1,010 Londoners to find out the best one.

It turns out that London’s favourite tube line isn’t a tube line at all, but is the Elizabeth line crossrail service. In the survey, 67 percent of people said they liked London’s newest line that opened in 2022 the best. Only four percent of respondents had a bad word to say about the Lizzie line.

Coming in second was also a non-Underground service, with 52 percent of respondents saying they liked the Overground. Only 6 percent of people had a negative view of the formerly orange line.

London’s third favourite line was the DLR, with 47 percent of surveyed people having a positive view of the service. And no, the DLR is still not a tube line. Of the actual tube lines in YouGov’s findings, the Jubilee ranked highest, followed by the Victoria and District lines, respectively.

Not so surprisingly, the Central line was the least popular line in London. Thirty percent of people said they disliked the noisy, crowded and frequently delayed red line, with only 25 percent having positive things to say about it.

The Elizabeth line has won the UK’s most prestigious architecture prize.
