Lovers of neat symmetry, loud primary colours and twee outfits, we’ve got exceptionally exciting news. The Design Museum, one of London’s best museums, has just revealed its 2025 exhibition programme – and it includes a huge show all about the works of director Wes Anderson.

The Design Museum’s exhibition will be titled ‘Wes Anderson’ and it’ll be the film director’s first official retrospective exhibition. The show will follow his work from Anderson’s first experiments in the 1990s right up to his recent Oscar-winning flicks, featuring original props, costumes and behind-the-scenes insights.

While London has had several Wes Anderson (or Anderson-inspired) exhibitions over the years, including the ‘Isle of Dogs’ exhibition at 180 The Strand and the ‘Accidentally Wes Anderson’ photo show, this is a different beast. It’s a proper collaboration between the Design Museum and Cinémathèque française and has been curated in partnership with Wes Anderson himself and his production company American Empirical Pictures.

According to the museum: ‘Each Wes Anderson picture plunges the viewer into a world with its own codes, motifs, references, and sumptuous and instantly recognisable sets and costumes.

‘This exhibition will be the first time museum visitors have the opportunity to delve into the art of his complete filmography, examining his inspirations, homages, and the meticulous craftsmanship that define his work.’

Sounds fascinating, eh? In less-good news, however, we’ll have to wait quite a while before the exhibition actually opens. ‘Wes Anderson’ will run at the Design Museum from November 21 2025 until March 29 2026.

Today (September 23) the Design Museum revealed its full list of major exhibitions in 2025. In March ‘Splash! A Century of Swimming and Style’ will dive (pun intended) into design and swimming; in June ‘More Than Human’ will examine ‘how design can help our planet thrive by shifting its focus beyond human needs’; and in September ‘Blitz: the club that shaped the 80s’ will revisit London’s 1980s clubland, centred on Covent Garden’s Blitz.
