In just a couple of weeks, hundreds of thousands of Londoners will be leaving the Big Smoke and driving home for Christmas. Normally, drivers are billed £15 a day for travelling through London’s congestion charge zone, but that’s not very Christmassy if you ask us.

However, we bring glad tidings! Ahead of the festive rush, Transport for London has announced that it will be dropping certain fees to help make that drive home a little cheaper. This is what you need to know.

Is the congestion charge free over Christmas?

It most certainly is! TfL has confirmed that the £15-a-day congestion charge will be temporarily scrapped for eight days from Christmas Day until January 2. You can see which areas fall within the congestion charge zone here

Do you have to pay ULEZ over Christmas?

For the most of the festive period, yes, you will have to pay the £12.50-a-day ULEZ fee. London’s ULEZ fees will be suspended on Christmas Day only. On the other hand, the Low Emission Zone fee, which covers most of Greater London, will still apply throughout December.
