Whatever you want from a hotel, London’s got it. Five-star facilities, flat-out luxury, charming boutiques, business travel simplicity, primed for romance, stays on a budget… you can find all that and so many more in the capital.
Here at Time Out we’ve naturally got a definitive ranking of London’s best hotels, but we’re not the only ones with opinions on the city’s top places to stay. The Sunday Times recently revealed its 2025 list of the UK’s finest hotels – and several establishments in the capital made the top 100.
The newspaper’s ‘London hotel of the year’ award was given to The Goring in Belgravia. Dating back to 1910 and long-favoured by members of the Royal Family, The Goring pitches itself as ‘London’s last remaining family-owned hotel’.
The Sunday Times gushed about The Goring: ‘No hotel epitomises eccentric English charm better than this Belgravia beauty.
‘In general, it feels like a cosier version of Claridge’s, especially the lobby’s chequered marble floor and whimsical hand-painted wallpaper, including some brushstrokes by the Princess of Wales, who’s spotted here regularly.’
The Times went on to praise The Goring’s ‘classic but unstuffy’ rooms and service, as well as its charity Hotel School, which trains homeless people with hospitality industry skills. Here are a few pics of the hotel, which you can book on Booking.com here.

And The Goring wasn’t the only London hotel to feature in the Sunday Times list. Broadwick Soho was named ‘disruptor of the year’ and The Beaumont Mayfair was deemed ‘one to watch’.
Other London hotels made the longlist but didn’t get an award title. Those were The Mitre in Hampton Court, The Buxton in Aldgate, Southwark’s The Hoxton, The Laslett in Notting Hill, The Kensington in South Ken, The Emory in Belgravia, Ruby Stella in Clerkenwell and Batty Langley’s in Shoreditch. You can find the full Sunday Times list here.
