If you’ve spent an evening wandering central London in the past few weeks, you’ll know that 2024’s festive show is one for the ages. From the traditional-style lights of Covent Garden and Oxford Street to the huge Wallace and Gromit projections on Battersea Power Station, London is well and truly in the festive spirit.
The city is now packed with glitzy lights displays, buzzy Christmas markets and atmospheric ice rinks. Central to the festivities are Christmas trees – and London this year, as always, boasts several spectacular ones.
But which of all of London’s Christmas trees is the best this year? Here at Time Out we’ve headed out across the city to squares, museums, hotels and train stations, and scored all the trees in one definitive ranking.
Coming top this year is a classy one: the tree at Claridge’s. The five-star Mayfair hotel has, as always, enlisted a legendary fashion designer to doll up its tree – this year letting Paul Smith do the honours.
We describe the tree: ‘Standing in a giant barrel adorned with his signature colourful stripes, Sir Paul’s maximalist tree is a riot of colourful baubles, ribbons and over 100 bespoke bird nests handpainted by the designer’s friend, British artist Nik Ramage.’
Here are some pics of the tree in all its glory.
Also featuring in our list is Liz West’s sharp, vibrant sculpture at King’s Cross, St Pancras’ Wicked-themed tree and Trafalgar Square’s tree (now that it’s had time to unfurl). Read the full 2024 Christmas tree ranking here.
