A new week is upon us. And with that, five more days of rush hour commutes for lots of Londoners to look forward to. The joy. The sheer joy.
While we sadly can’t predict the future and tell you whether trains will be delayed on the Piccadilly line or services will be cancelled last minute on the Northern line, we can warn you about the various closures that TfL has planned this week to allow for maintenance work.
For the final week of March, there are closures on the Mildmay Overground line, the Elizabeth line and several changes to station step-free access to be aware of. Here’s the full breakdown of planned disruption on London’s transport this week.
Mildmay line (Overground)
On Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, the Mildmay line westbound from Camden Road to Willesden Junction will be shut from 11.45pm.
Then, on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday it’ll be shut on the southbound route from Willesden Junction to Shepherd’s Bush until 6.15am.
Elizabeth line
From Monday to Wednesday, Acton Main Line station will be shut after 10.46pm each evening, Hanwell station will shut from 10.53pm and West Ealing station will be closed after 10.51pm.
After 10pm from Monday to Friday, Elizabeth line services will be reduced. There will only be two trains an hour between Abbey Wood and Heathrow Terminal 4 and trains between Abbey Wood and Maidenhead will run between Abbey Wood and London Paddington (Elizabeth line) only. Ealing Broadway, Southall and Hayes & Harlington will have a reduced service of six trains per hour, Heathrow Terminal 2 & 3 will only have four trains per hour and West Drayton, Langley, Slough, Burnham, Maidenhead and Heathrow Terminal 4 will have just two trains an hour.
Blackhorse Road (Victoria line)
If you’re getting on at Blackhorse Road station, be aware that there’s no down escalator service to the Victoria line until July. You’ll need to use the stairs instead.
Bond Street
There’s no step-free access to or from Bond Street’s Marylebone Lane entrance this week because of planned maintenance.
Canning Town (Jubilee line, DLR)
There’s a reduced escalator service going to and from the platforms for the Jubilee line and DLR. Passengers can use the stairs or alternative escalators instead.
Cutty Sark (DLR)
Cutty Sark has no escalators running until further notice. TfL recommends you take the DLR from Greenwich station for a smoother journey.
Green Park (Jubilee line)
There’s no step-free access to or from the Jubilee line at Green Park station until August. You’re best off travelling via Westminster and Victoria using the Victoria line to/from Green Park.
Hackney Central (Mildmay line)
There’ll be no lift service at Hackney Central station from Thursday to Saturday. You can still get step-free access to the eastbound platform via the ramp but for westbound journeys you’ll need to travel eastbound to Homerton and change there for westbound services.
Heron Quays (DLR)
No step-free access at Heron Quays for trains towards Canary Wharf.
Highgate (Northern line)
TfL recommends that people trying to get to Highgate might find it easier to get off the tube at Archway and complete their journey by bus. That’s because the escalator at Highgate station from the ticket hall to Archway Road remains closed for ongoing maintenance works.
Kew Gardens (District line, Mildmay line)
Heading to Kew? You should keep in mind that right now, the step-free platform interchange between platforms requires a 600m journey via the street.
London Bridge (Jubilee line, Northern line)
There’s a reduced escalator service between the ticket hall at London Bridge station and the Northern line mid-concourse level. TfL says this should only last until mid-March.
Pontoon Dock (DLR)
At the moment, there’s no lift service at Pontoon Dock DLR station towards Bank or Stratford International. TfL says you should travel via West Silvertown or London City Airport as necessary, changing to/from Woolwich Arsenal bound services.
Shepherd’s Bush (Central line)
From Wednesday, 19 March to late August, there will be no down escalator at Shepherd’s Bush Central line station. Passengers will have to use the 70-step staircase down to the platform instead .
Stockwell (Northern line, Victoria line)
There’s a reduced escalator service at Stockwell but there’ll be signage to alternative escalators that you can use.
Surrey Quays Rail (Windrush)
Keep in mind that the doors of the last carriage of the trains won’t open on the southbound platform of Surrey Quays restaurant station due to station improvement work.
