Valentine’s Day is achingly close. But if a day centred all around love and affection makes you want to shrivel up and bury yourself into the ground, you’re certainly not alone. Whether it’s down to the apps or the fact that no one’s going out anymore, the majority of Londoners are pretty darn cynical about the capital’s dating scene. And we’ve got the numbers to prove it.

As part of Time Out’s huge best cities survey, we asked more than 18,500 city-dwellers about their dating life. Specifically, we wanted to know whether locals think it’s easy to find love in their city.

Most of the Londoners we surveyed have a dismal view of dating. Only 28 percent of London locals said they think that getting coupled up here is easy, meaning our city ranked the joint seventh worst in the world for finding love (alongside Brisbane, Australia).

We say don’t give up on love yet, though! It may not be easy to search for your soulmate here, but it’s not impossible. London has a wide pick of places perfect for wooing, seducing and courting, if you know where to find them. The Dover in Mayfair is a fantastic setting for flirting while feasting (the best, in fact), there’s an abundance of pretty places for a romantic rendezvous, fabulous first date spots and an array of non-cliché ways to impress your crush.
