At the end of last year posh bakery chain Gail’s revealed plans to open up to 40 new outposts across the UK in 2025. And now it’s revealed exactly where and when the brand’s first new bakeries of the year will open in London.
There’ll be three new London Gail’s in total, and two open at the end of this month. Welcoming customers from January 30 will be new bakeries at Southwark and Primrose Hill. The Southwark branch will open inside Southwark Bridge Road’s old London Fire Brigade Building, while the Primrose Hill one will be on Gloucester Avenue.
The third new Gail’s bakery in the capital will be in Stoke Newington. The northeast London area’s new Gail’s will open on Church Street in the old premises of Rasa Street on February 27. The OG Rasa, one of London’s best Indian restaurants, remains open as usual.
It’s worth noting that not all these incoming branches of Gail’s have been whole-heartedly welcomed by their neighbourhoods. Some residents of Primrose Hill called the arrival of the new bakery ‘sad’, and said chain’s expansion was like a ‘steamroller’. You can read more about the Gail’s Primrose Hill controversy here (and about a previous controversial Gail’s in Walthamstow, too).
