Swimmers of east London, here’s an early Christmas present from Hackney Council. It’s been announced that London Fields Lido will be reopening in the New Year, after almost nine months of trouble-plagued refurbishment.

The hugely popular open-air pool in London Fields shut in April for repairs to its tilework and a refit of its changing rooms and facilities. It was supposed to reopen in late summer, but that date was delayed first to the end of September, and then beyond. Now the date of January 4 has been set for the big reveal.

It’s too late for lido regulars’ traditional Boxing Day swim, but it’s something. Let’s just hope there aren’t any last-minute snags, eh?

And if you’re in the area, here are 19 banging things to do on Broadway Market this Christmas.
