For millennials, chugging VKs in a vomit-smelling nightclub multiple times of week was a core part of the uni experience. These days it’s a different story. New research by the Night Time Industries Association shows that young people are rarely going out nowadays (in a survey 68 percent of Gen Z said the current economic climate reduced their participation in night-time activities, and 53 percent reported spending less on going out compared to last year).

Because of this, clubs like Pryzm and Atik went bust this time last year. It was bad news for jägerbomb sales everywhere.

However, Pryzm Kingston could soon be resurrected and reopen as part of a massive £3 million makeover. The former nightclub has been taken over by new owners Neos Hospitality, who want to convert the building into two new venues.

The Grade II-listed building on Clarence Street would be divided into a ‘party bar’ on the ground floor, known as Bonnie Rogues, and a new nightclub on the first and second floors, called Circuit.

The building originally opened as Granada Cinema in 1939 and was later expanded with two more screens, before shutting in 1987. It was transformed into a nightclub – then called Oceana – in 2003.

In planning application documents submitted to the council, Neos said the revamp would improve the venue's ability to attract top artists, as the changes would allow customers to have a better view of the stage from the second floor. There would be minimal changes to the historic parts of the building.

The council will have to approve the plans first, but this could be the return of one of the UK’s most iconic student nightclubs.
