You don’t need us to tell you that London is full of poshos. We’ve got the Royal Family, the King’s Road’s Sloane Rangers, Jamie Laing. And new additions are forever being added to the posh cultural zeitgeist, like the guy from Top Jaw, and Schooner Scorer. Now it’s confirmed: London is home to five of the poshest neighbourhoods in the UK.

With help from data from estate agent Savills, the Telegraph has revealed the 14 ‘poshest’ suburbs in the UK. The paper analysed the places that have the highest number of households with the biggest mortgages, are closest to the best schools, have plenty of green spaces and high streets full of independent shops; basically, neighbourhoods where the residents have a lot of cash to spend.

On the list, Britain’s top four most affluent locations were in London. Herne Hill in south London took the title of the UK’s poshest suburb. In the area neighbouring Brixton, the average household annual income is nearly £150,000, and the average house price is £1.6 million. According to estate agents, Herne Hill attracts young families, a creative crowd and has a Gail’s – the marker for a posh neighbourhood.

‘It used to be considered a best kept secret by locals but is now one of the most sought-after areas in south London, with mainly classic Victorian and Edwardian houses, the open green space of Brockwell Park with tennis courts, and historic Brockwell House and its own village centre,’ Marc Wiehe from Winkworth estate agents told the Telegraph.

Following Herne Hill in second place was Between the Commons – the area between Clapham Common, Wandsworth Common and Tooting Bec. Third, fourth and sixth place on the list were taken by Brook Green, Barnsbury and South Hampstead, respectively.
