IKEA is a romantic place. No, wait, don’t leave yet – hear us out. The Swedish furniture company is somewhere to pick out your home, to decide your style, design an entire life, and all on a budget decisively less likely to cause arguments. What could be more romantic than that?
Admittedly, IKEA may not be what first springs to mind when you’re thinking of London’s top spots for a first date. But the company wants to change all that this Valentine’s Day, when it’ll be hosting in-store first dates at IKEA Greenwich.
Now, could you simply go on a date in IKEA on Friday anyway, company approved or not? Yep, you sure could. But this one has a few added perks, not least that it’ll matchmake London singletons, so they don’t need to worry about bringing a date.
The date also won’t just take place in IKEA Greenwich – it’ll be in a bed in a roomset, with couples matched by ‘bedroom preferences’ (stuff like mattress firmness, duvet thickness etc not other bedroom stuff) and served the brand’s iconic meatballs. It’s a partnership with dating app Breeze, and three London couples will be matched up on February 14.
About the in-store dates, Tania Douglas, IKEA’s commercial activity leader, said: ]At IKEA, we believe everyone deserves a good night's sleep – so we’re excited to team up with Breeze to help those looking for love to find someone they can sleep soundly with.’
Breeze co-founder Marsha Goei said: ‘Breeze is dedicated to helping people find meaningful connections in real life. We’re excited to partner with IKEA to create a truly special dating experience that celebrates the magic of finding someone who is genuinely compatible.’
ICYMI: What’s going on with IKEA’s massive new Oxford Street store?
