It’s nearly Christmas, and while loads of Londoners will be leaving the city to visit family around the country, a lot of you will be staying put as well.
If you’re going to be in London over the festive period, you’ll need to be aware that TfL will be operating on a reduced service between December 23 and January 2, including bare bones services on Christmas and Boxing day. TfL is also using this time to carry out engineering works on the London Overground, the Elizabeth line and DLR.
To make things a little easier we’ve broken down all that disruption day by day below. Here are all the Christmas tube and train closures to know about for 2024.

December 23
Mildmay (Overground): No service between Stratford and Camden Road (westbound only) after 11.45pm.
DLR: No service between Prince Regent and Beckton; No service between Bank and Shadwell.
Trams: Saturday service
December 24
Bus: Weekday service on all day routes; No night service; 24-hour services finish around midnight.
Tube: Saturday service; reduced service from 8pm; Sunday finish times; no District line service from Kensington/Olympia.
Waterloo & City line: no service
Overground: Reduced service after 7.30pm (Windrush), 8pm (Mildmay) and 8.30pm (Weaver); all services finish at 9.30pm.
Elizabeth line: Normal service until midday, Saturday service after 12:01pm.
DLR: Service ends early at 10.30pm; no service between Bank and Shadwell.
December 25
No service on the London Underground, Overground, Elizabeth line, DLR, trams, buses and National Rail.
Driving: There will be no Congestion Charge from Christmas Day to Wednesday January 1 2025. The Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) will not operate on Christmas Day. The Low Emission Zone (LEZ) will remain in place every day, including December 25.
December 26
Bus: Sunday service on all day routes; Sunday night service.
Tube: Reduced Sunday service.
Overground: No service on Suffragette, Lioness, Liberty and Weaver lines; reduced service on Windrush line between 7am and 11pm, trains running between Highbury and Islington and West Croydon only; Reduced Mildmay service running between Clapham Junction and Stratford only, between 9am and 10pm.
DLR: Late start at 8.30am; no Bank to Shadwell service.
Elizabeth line: No service.
Trams: Sunday service.
December 27
Bus: Saturday service on all day routes; Sunday night service on all night and 24-hour services
Tube: Saturday service; no District line service to/from Kensington Olympia.
Overground: Saturday service on the Lioness and Sufragette lines; No Weaver line service between Liverpool Street and London Fields, limited service on the rest of the weaver line. Liverpool Street rail station is closed.
Elizabeth line: Reduced service; no service between Ealing Broadway and Paddington; the line will run in 2 sections: Western (Ealing Broadway to Reading/Heathrow and Central/East (Paddington to Stratford/Abbey Wood); some early and late services will terminate at Stratford instead of Liverpool Street.
DLR: Special service; no Bank to Shadwell service.
December 28
Tube: No District line service to/from Kensington Olympia.
Overground: No Weaver line between Liverpool Street and London fields, limited service on the rest of the Weaver. Liverpool Street station is closed.
Elizabeth line: Reduced service; no service between Ealing Broadway and Paddington; the line will run in 2 sections: Western (Ealing Broadway to Reading/Heathrow and Central/East (Paddington to Stratford/Abbey Wood); some early and late services will terminate at Stratford instead of Liverpool Street.
DLR: Special service; no Bank to Shadwell service.
December 29
Tube: No District line service to/from Kensington Olympia.
Overground: No Weaver line between Liverpool Street and London fields, limited service on the rest of the Weaver. Liverpool Street station is closed.
Elizabeth line: Reduced service; no service between Ealing Broadway and Paddington; the line will run in 2 sections: Western (Ealing Broadway to Reading/Heathrow and Central/East (Paddington to Stratford/Abbey Wood); some early and late services will terminate at Stratford instead of Liverpool Street.
DLR: Special service; no Bank to Shadwell service.
December 30
Bus: Saturday day service; Monday night service (night and 24-hour routes).
Tube: Saturday service; No District line service to/from Kensington Olympia.
Waterloo & City line: Reduced service.
Overground: Saturday service on Lioness line; Mildmay line, no service Camden Road to Willesden Junction (westbound only) after 11.45pm; Suffragette line, Saturday service; no Weaver line between Liverpool Street and London fields, limited service on the rest of the Weaver. Liverpool Street station is closed.
Elizabeth line: Saturday service; some early and late services will terminate at Stratford instead of Liverpool Street.
DLR: Special service; no Bank to Shadwell service.
Trams: Saturday service.
December 31
All tube lines (apart from Waterloo & City line and District line to Kensington Olympia), the Overground and Elizabeth lines will run all night. Sadly, there’s no longer free TfL travel on New Year’s Eve.
Bus: Saturday day service, aome buses in central London will be on diversion from early afternoon because of the fireworks, check TfL status updates for buses to see if your route is affected; Saturday night service on all 24-hour and night routes, some routes will run more often, a small number of day routes will run overnight.
Tube: Reduced Saturday service in the daytime, all routes (excluding District to Kensington Olympia) will run all night; stations near the fireworks event and in other busy areas of London may be exit or interchange only or have queues.
Overground: Saturday service on Lioness line; Mildmay line, no service between Willesden Junction and Shepherd's Bush (southbound only) before 6.15am; Saturday service on the Suffragette line; no Weaver line between Liverpool Street and London fields, limited service on the rest of the Weaver, Liverpool Street station is closed.
Overnight service on these Overground lines: Windrush between Highbury & Islington and West Croydon/Crystal Palace;
Mildmay between Stratford and Clapham Junction/Richmond; Weaver between London Fields and Chingford, Enfield Town and Cheshunt.
Elizabeth line: Saturday service in the day, some early and late services will terminate at Stratford instead of Liverpool Street; special all-night service but no overnight services running to/from Heathrow, all the rest of the line is running.
DLR: Saturday day service; special all-night service.
Trams: Sunday service; special all-night service.
January 1
Bus: Sunday service on all day routes; Sunday night service
Tube: Reduced Sunday service; no District line service to/from Kensington Olympia.
Waterloo and City line: No service
Overground: Lioness line, Saturday service, a later start at approximately 6.45am; Saturday service on Mildmay line, no service between Camden Rd and Willesden Junction, westbound only after 11.45pm; Saturday service on Suffragette line; no Weaver line between Liverpool Street and London fields, limited service on the rest of the Weaver, Liverpool Street station is closed.
Elizabeth line: Saturday service, some early and late services will terminate at Stratford instead of Liverpool Street.
DLR: Saturday service.
Trams: Sunday service.
January 2
Normal service resumes on buses, tube, the Elizabeth line, DLR, trams, Dial-a-Ride, and the Woolwich Ferry.
Mildmay (Overground): Before 6.15am, no service Willesden Junction to Shepherd's Bush, southbound only; after 11.45pm, no service between Camden Rd and Willesden Junction, westbound only.
For non-TfL services, beware the closure of Liverpool Street, Paddington and King’s Cross stations, and disruption on Thameslink services.
