Whether you’re a seasoned marathon buff or you merely like standing on the sidelines with a sandwich, there’s something about an en-masse run that brings out camaraderie in us all.
This Sunday, new event The Big Half will be harnessing all that goodwill as up to 20,000 Londoners take on a half marathon with a twist: this one’s not just a fun run, it’s a whole day of events organised in conjunction with a host of community groups across the capital, designed to celebrate diversity and inclusivity through sport.
First up, there’s the race itself. Starting at 9am at Tower Bridge, it’ll pass through Southwark, Lewisham and Tower Hamlets before finishing up in Greenwich.
Then it’s over to Greenwich Park for The Big Festival, which will include music from local artists, health and wellbeing workshops and sports taster sessions for the grand price of zero pounds. Such good value, you’ll be able to afford a big half or even a couple of pints down the local after too.
So sure, it might be snowing today. But by Sunday, expect the cockles of your heart to be thoroughly warmed.
