Planning on getting the guns out now the sun’s out? Fancy upping your self-defence game? Or just looking for an excuse to show off those fresh creps? Whatever your sporting prowess (or lack thereof), this summer Virgin Sport is hoping to break a world record by turning Hackney Marshes into one giant boxing ring. And you’re invited.

Virgin Sport

More than 50,000 people are expected to glove up and get their sweat on, accompanied by live DJs, while ripped fitness freak and FightKlub founder Troy Dureh shows everyone the ropes in a 45-minute mass boxing class.

If you’re feeling particularly energetic, there will also be free fitness classes and a 5k run taking place over the weekend (May 19-20) as part of the Virgin Sport festival of fitness. Though if you’re just after a good pub story, smashing the record (currently set at 3,000) should be easy enough once you’ve rounded up all the pals you used to do sports with when you were young and hangover-free.

After you’ve thrown a few punches, refuel with green juices and vegan offerings or craft beer, burgers and other local grub. It’s all about balance, right?

The boxing lesson world record attempt will take place at the Virgin Sport Hackney festival of fitness on Hackney Marshes on May 20.

Tickets for the world record attempt start at £20.
