Right now, there’s a chance to get your hands on a piece of musical history in London. David Bowie’s childhood home in Bromley – which the singer moved into in 1953 when he was just six years old – has hit the property market.
The two-bedroom terraced house is going for a stonking £449,500. In 1953 the average UK house price was only £1,884, equating to £44,795 in today’s money. This is quite the appreciation, even if it was once home to the iconic singer. This pad was home to the Bowie family for just one year, before they upped sticks and moved to the East End, where they settled at 4 Plaistow Grove.
This isn’t your typical rockstar’s pad, but a modest end-terraced house situated on Canon Road near Bickley train station. The house has two double bedrooms, one bathroom, a dining room, living room, small kitchen and moderate back garden.

The property listing describes it as a ‘charming two-bedroom period terraced house’, ‘located in a quiet residential position close to the heart of Bickley on the borders of Bromley’. It adds: ‘This Victorian property exudes a sense of peace and tranquillity, making it the perfect place to call home.’
Fancy shacking up in the house that was home to baby Bowie? Here are some more photos of the singer’s former home.
