City envy: we want a graffiti museum like Berlin

Like it or loathe it, there’s no whitewashing the fact that street art is mad popular – and one of the world centres (apart from London, of course) is Berlin. The German capital already had the East Side Gallery: a stretch of the Berlin Wall that was covered in murals in 1990. Now it’s gained a whole indoor museum dedicated to guerilla daubings.

Say guten tag to Urban Nation: an uber-cool gallery full of specially made works on canvas by a ‘who’s who’ of the street art world. Outside, the building is decked out in murals that recall the colourful slogans once daubed on the Wall. It’s a statement about how art comes in many forms – and how the humble spray can has given a voice to folks without one. We reckon it’d be great to have an answer to Urban Nation here in open-minded London. Yes, we can!

Want to see graffiti without leaving the country? Here are London’s best street art galleries.
