This is a sentence we never thought we’d say: a giant animation of Wallace & Gromit will be projected onto the chimneys at Battersea Power Station every day from now until New Year’s Eve as part of Battersea’s Christmas light display. It’s crackers and we’re here for it.

Following on from from last year’s David Hockney animation, this year the Battersea towers will pay homage to the beloved claymation characters. Every day, from 5pm to 10.30pm, an animation created by Aardman will light up the two wash towers on the landmark’s river-facing facade. During the show, you’ll see Wallace and Gromit decorate Christmas trees in their own inimitable styles, despite the intervention of the mischievous Feathers McGraw.

Aardman shot the film to be projected on the 101-metre-high chimneys using an iPhone 16 Pro Max. A total of eight phones were used to capture photos of the models, which were then assembled frame by frame to create the stop-motion video.

‘This project has been a dream to direct — a cinematic fusion of tech and art,’ said Gavin Strange, Aardman’s director and graphic design lead.
