[title]
Scorching heat. Melting ice cream. Muscle-bound gym bunnies, permatanned roller-skaters and the crashing of waves on an endless sandy shore. These are just some of the things that definitely do not come to mind when someone says ‘Camden’.
That’s all set to change, though, with event-theatre stalwart Backyard Cinema bringing a little piece of California’s Venice Beach to the Roundhouse in Chalk Farm for its LA Nights series. That means palm trees, a retro beach bar and an entire actual beach, replete with bean bags (because a towel really isn’t that comfortable for watching a two-hour movie).
There’ll be an ocean of films to choose from, with everything from ‘Aquaman’ to ‘Clueless’ to ‘The Lego Movie 2’, as well as summer parties and singalongs to ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ and ‘The Greatest Showman’ for the more musically minded of London’s inner-city beach bums.
And in case the California climate decides not to make the trip, the whole thing will be under a roof. Even in July, north London doesn’t lend itself to wearing flip-flops.
Venice Beach is coming to the Roundhouse, Jul 18-Aug 25. Tickets from £18.99. Find out more here.
