While Michelin starred restaurants are world renowned for delivering incredible service and outstanding one-of-a-kind menus, the one thing they’re not so good at is being budget-friendly. Some tasting menus at London’s starred restaurant cost as much as £400 a head. But great food doesn’t have to break the bank. That’s where Michelin’s Bib Gourmand awards come in.
They’re not quite the Michelin star level of prestige, but they’re not far off. Named after Bibendum, the puffy white Michelin man, the Bib Gourmands were created in 1997 to celebrate places offering ‘tremendous value for money without skimping on flavour’. In other words, these restaurants are much kinder to our wallets than their starred counterparts (you can see which one of those are the most affordable here).
Now, the 2025 Bib Gourmand recipients have officially been revealed. Of the 36 British and Irish establishments that earned a Bib this year, 11 were here in London.
The capital’s proud new owners of a Bib Gourmand include Thai restaurant Kolae in Borough, Korean joint Miga in Hackney and Malaysian diner Mambow in Clapton, all of which have glistening five stars reviews from Time Out food critics.
