Ten London restaurants won their first Michelin star (and two were awarded a second) at the Michelin Guide 2025 for Great Britain and Ireland ceremony, which took place last night (February 10) at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum in Glasgow.
Plates scooped the notable honour of being the first ever vegan restaurant in the UK to win a Michelin star. The restaurant is run by brother-sister duo Kirk and Keeley Haworth and opened in Shoreditch last summer. Kirk has featured on BBC’s Great British Menu.
The other London restaurants to win their first Michelin star are Oma, AngloThai, Lita, Caractere, 64 Goodge Street in Fitzrovia, Cornus in Belgravia, Row on 5 on Savile Row, Dosa in Mayfair, and Mauro Colagreco at Raffles on Whitehall.
Borough-based Greek restaurant Oma, and Marylebone’s AngloThai and Lita all scored five star reviews last year here in Time Out. Notting Hill’s Caractere is run by Emily Roux, daughter of former Le Gavroche head honcho Michel Roux Jr.
Speaking about the win for Plates, Kirk Haworth commented: ‘Earning a Michelin star is such an incredible honour and a lifetime goal since I was a young boy. To be the first in the plant-based sphere in the UK to win this prestigious award makes me unbelievably proud, and I am so grateful to our talented team for their support and dedication.’
Two London restaurants which already had a Michelin star were awarded a second star at the ceremony; the Ritz Restaurant in Mayfair and Soho’s Humble Chicken. There were no new three star restaurants in London.
Two London restaurants have lost their Michelin stars; Jason Atherton’s City Social in the City of London and Chinese restaurant Kai in Mayfair. Three other London restaurants with stars have also been removed from the guide, as they closed down within the past 12 months; Cornerstone in Hackney Wick, Locanda Locatelli in Marylebone and Pollen Street Social in Mayfair. No two or three-star restaurants in London lost any of their stars at the 2025 awards.
