If anyone’s had an absolutely bangin’ 2018, it’s John Krasinski. Directing and starring in I’m-so-scared-I-could-yelp-but-I-don’t-want-to-make-a-sound thriller ‘A Quiet Place’, he proved he had a talent for scaring the bejesus out of us. Prior to that, you may have recognised him as gangly and adorable Jim from the US version of ‘The Office’, or other lanky and adorable roles in ‘License to Wed’ and ‘Something Borrowed’.

He now steps into the all-action shoes of Harrison Ford, Alec Baldwin, Chris Pine and Ben Affleck as Jack Ryan, CIA operative. Following on from film adaptations of Tom Clancy’s classic spy thrillers (‘The Hunt for Red October’, ‘Patriot Games’ et al), Amazon Video has released a ten-part series, ’Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan’, with Krasinski as the title character.

This time around, Ryan’s pulled from his desk job to follow a string of dubious bank transfers in the Middle East. We caught up with Krasinski this summer to chat about major on-set injuries (ouch!), covert operations and the official line on which cinema snacks are socially acceptable for action movies.

‘Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan’ premieres on Amazon Video on Monday August 20. Hungry for more action? See if you agree with our list of the 100 best thrillers of all time
