Frozen potato maker McCain’s have surprised us all and announced they’re opening a roast dinner pop-up restaurant, called Roastaurant. Open for just two days from Friday December 8-Sunday December 10, the idea behind it is to ‘throw out the roast dinner rulebook’ and do away with the old clichés about boring meat and two veg, apparently. To illustrate the infinite potential of this Brit national dish, McCain are promising 100,000 types of roast dinner. We repeat: 100,000 different roast dinners. It all sounds a bit overwhelming to us, to be honest – but strangely exciting too. You can expect delights like pigeon with onion rings covered in chocolate gravy, and beef brisket served with charred pineapple. We’ve heard whispers of a six-metre square dish of roast potatoes and a ‘gravy micro-brewery’ on site, too, so we’re expecting Big Things.
Roastaurant is popping up at Truman Brewery, 91 Brick Lane, E1 6QL from Fri Dec 8-Sun Dec 10.
