Dakar's most famous musical export, N'Dour has over the years refined his style, demystifying the complexities of his Senegalese Super Etoile sound in favour of simpler tunes and a connection to Western pop. However, his spine-tingling vocals and continued use of such African instrumentation as the tama (talking drum) remain at the core of his music, earthing his work and preventing too wayward a drift towards the mainstream.
