Yazz Ahmed

A young trumpeter with a fluid, swinging approach to standards and a fine open-toned sound, rising star Ahmed has sessioned wth such heavyweights as Radiohead, Lee 'Scratch' Perry and the Urban Soul Orchestra. Here she combines her electric quintet – clarinetist Ben Castle, keyboard player Naadia Sheriff, bassist Dudley Phillips, drummer Martin France and percussionist Corrina Silvester – with vibraphones from Empirical member Lewis Wright. Together the ensemble with play music that draws on Ahmed’s Arabic heritage and seamlessly blends with jazz and improv.
