The four Derek Butler postgraduate scholars from London's leading music colleges, Abigail Sin (Guildhall School of Music and Drama), Luka Sulic (Royal Academy of Music), Mari Poll (Royal College of Music) and Maria Nemtsova (Trinity Laban), compete for this annual prize now in its fifth year. The varied programme includes works for piano, violin and cello. Poulenc's Allegro con fuoco from Violin Sonata; Bartók's Tempo di ciaccona from Sonata for solo violin; Schubert arr Ernst 'Erlkönig'; Liszt's Ballade No 2, S171; Debussy's 'L'isle joyeuse'; Ligeti's Sonata for solo cello; Sarasate's 'Zigeunerweisen', Op 20 (arr Despalj); Scarlatti's Three Sonatas: in G minor Kk8; in E Kk20; in D minor Kk141; Scriabin's Prelude and Nocturne for the left hand, Op 9; Ligeti's Etude No 5 ('Arc-en-ciel'); and Etude No 13 ('L'escalier du diable').
