Time Out says

A prodigious trumpeter, much vaunted by the usually sceptical Miles Davis, Blanchard was a star soloist and songwriter in Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers at the age of 19, when he replaced Wynton Marsalis. He's also played and MD'd on several Spike Lee films, where you can hear his warm, reserved improvisatory style, one which owes much to Woody Shaw.
