Aoife Miskelly (soprano), Angharad Lyddon (mezzo-soprano), Leo Tomita (countertenor), Thomas Elwin (tenor), Andri Björn Róbertsson (baritone), with pianists Mark Austin and Elizabeth Challenger. The Royal Academy of Music celebrates Schubert's birthday with a programme of his songs, performed in chronological order of composition. Opening with 'Verklärung' – a setting in German translation of Alexander Pope's 'The Dying Christian to his Soul' composed when Schubert was just 16; and closing with a setting of Leitner's 'Die Sterne', which dates from the last year of Schubert's life. This Schubertiade is given in nineteenth-century costume.
