Celebrated Dallas-born trumpeter who came to fame as a neo-classical protege of Wynton Marsalis but has moved into a variety of settings – hard bop, M-Base, Latin, funk and as a horn arranger for Common, D'Angelo, Erykah Badu, etc. Still switching between both his hip 'n' hard swinging post-bop roots and his more accessible soul-edged sound he's here with saxophonist Justin Robinson, pianist Jonathan Batiste and a killing rhythm section.
