Founded in 1990, the Syrian National Orchestra for Arabic Music built an international reputation for its innovative take on Arabic music, and even toured with Gorillaz. But when the Syrian civil war broke out in 2011 its 90 members were divided and conductor Issam Rafea fled to Chicago. Now many of its members have reunited for a series of concerts as the Orchestra of Syrian Musicians, starting in London where they’ll be joined by guests including Damon Albarn and Paul Weller. Don’t miss out.
