The new album by this French quartet draws on the potent blend of traditional southern chanson, Jamaican and Brazilian styles that characterised Marseilles in the ’30s. Their cool neo-Mediterranean blues are roughened by some throaty vocals in the ancient southern French language of Occitan by singer Mr T, who sounds like he’s spent many nights smoking on the dock of the bay.
